Liège and the Three Valleys: A Blend of Urban Charm and Natural Splendor

Liège is the perfect spot for a multifaceted city trip. Once one of Belgium’s wealthiest cities, it breathes history and charm.

You’ll see this reflected in the stunning 19th-century architecture that gives the historic center its distinctive character. While it may lack the refinement of Ghent or Antwerp, its authenticity and uniqueness more than make up for it.

Liège and the Three Valleys: A Blend of Urban Charm and Natural Splendor

Liège is a city of contrasts: medieval alleys meet modern districts, green hills meet a vibrant nightlife. Nicknamed "la cité Ardente" (the fiery city), Liège has undergone a striking transformation in recent years.

While its gritty edge remains, you’ll be enchanted by its rich heritage, vast forests, and iconic buildings. The industrial past still lingers: wooded slag heaps and old mines add a unique character to the landscape, offering a glimpse into the past.

Nature, however, is never far away. Just 15 minutes from the city center, you’ll find the magnificent valleys of the Ourthe, Vesdre, and Amblève. Here, nature has crafted a playground for hikers, cyclists, kayakers, and even tree climbers. Discover the world-famous Ninglinspo, a magical river hike, or wander the winding trails of the Boucle de l’Ourthe, both protected as natural areas.
