Charleroi

The center of Charleroi is rich in a striking architectural heritage and is surrounded by natural spaces. But this city also has cultural institutions, theaters and museums, which earned it the nickname "new Berlin".

This undeniably atypical and unconventional city has become a popular destination with many activities. The center has undergone a real metamorphosis in recent years. The lower part of the city changed radically with the arrival of shopping Rive Gauche, the youth hostel, the many restaurants and with the reconstruction of the quays. More redevelopment projects in the upper part of the city and along the ring road are in the pipeline for the coming years.
You can shop extensively, not only in the impressive shopping center, but also in the surrounding streets with their trendy and original boutiques.
In addition, there are the tourist circuits that allow you to discover the hidden treasures of the city: art nouveau, art deco, street art, 350 years of Charleroi, the 'urbex' walks and much more...

Charleroi is best known as the Black Country, but today it is said to be the greenest city in Wallonia. Just climb one of the  thirty slag heaps, and see for yourself!
